The HK series Monaro was historically important to Australia, as it was the first successful volume selling locally built coupe. The HK also won the Wheels Car of the year award, and Bathurst in its first time out.
Introduced in July 1968, the eye-catching design was inspired the “coke” bottle trend of long hood-short boot. The HK Monaro was available in three models, base, GTS and GTS 327. The GTS 327 was powered by a Chev 327 ci (5.41l) engine, that was good for 250bph (186kW), coupled with the front disc brakes, extended fuel tank and stiff suspension, turned the Monaro into a legend.
